Every college coach has a recruiting target for their incoming class of first-year student athletes. I take into consideration three important criteria when I'm looking to fill a recruiting class.
High Character People
Excellent Students
Talented and Motivated Tennis Players
Finding high character people takes the most time for a college coach. It is relatively easy to find out if a recruit is an excellent student. High school transcripts and standardized test scores can give a coach a strong indication as to each recruit's academic level. Tennisrecruiting.net and Universal Tennis Rating are two tools most coaches use to get an idea as to a recruit's level on the tennis court. But figuring out the character of a recruit takes player/coach communication. Overtime, it is important for the coach and the recruit to build a solid relationship through back and forth communication throughout the recruiting process. Phone calls, emails, texts are all good ways for recruits to get to know coaches and coaches to get to know recruits. The key to building the recruit/coach relationship is consistent communication. The more both parties know about one another throughout the recruiting process, the better off the recruit will be when making the all important college decision.
The type of student I am looking for meets the following criteria:
Above a 3.7 High School GPA
At or Above a 30 ACT score
At or Above a 1370 SAT score
Above a 9.5 UTR
3 Star and above on tennisrecruiting.net - Ranked lower than 550 nationally
At least two years of advanced-level tournament experience
Plays at the top of the ladder on their high school team
Has a tremendous desire to improve as a college player
Ranked between 8.0-11 UTR
6 out of 6 had at least a two-star rating on TRN as junior players
Team GPA spring semester 2024 - 3.4
I'm looking to recruit FOUR players in this coming recruiting class. My goal is to win the Liberty League within the next four years and obtain a northeast ITA regional ranking within the top 10 and a national ranking within the top 25. The Liberty League is currently home to several three and four star recruits, and many other one and two star recruits. The level of competition is very good and will be for many more years to come.
Given the facilities Hobart has, and success in athletics as a college, I have no doubt Hobart tennis can reach an elite level. I am extremely dedicated and committed to building one of the best college tennis programs in the country and am looking forward to recruiting great people that share my vision.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions about my recruiting goals or how you think you could fit in on the Hobart team. I always look forward to your feedback.
